YCW seeks to be a voice and space for all young people, especially those who are most vulnerable in our society. We hope all young people complete their basic education and make a successful transition to work or further education or training. We also seek to provide opportunities for young people to take active participation in community life and to develop their potential as young leaders.
Volunteers
All centres not only provide homework they also help young people with filling out forms, writing letters, planning events, goal setting and making the transition from school to work.
We assist young people that may be seen as at risk of dropping out of school, want to get into TAFE or make the transition from school to work. All volunteers are asked to complete a working with Children Check and are interviewed, trained and screened for suitability.
We are seeking volunteers who are patient, open minded, is able to listen to young people, has a heart and cares about our youth and our community. If you would like to volunteer please contact our project worker, Anne Marie El Dick.
Need Homework Help / Education / Work Goals (15-25yrs)
We are always seeking young people that need homework help, setting personal goals or need assistance making the transition from school to work for our learning centres. Please contact contact our project worker, Anne Marie El Dick.
Learning Centres
AUBURN: this centre is run from auburn youth centre. The venue is equipped with computers for the young people to use we also provide numeracy and literacy support for young refugee. It runs on Mondays and Wednesday 4pm to 6pm at Auburn Youth Centre.
COLYTON: the centre provides computer access recreational and holiday activates. YCW provided a number of laptops. The young people have a say in what goes on and works with the volunteers to plan activities. located at Colyton Neighbourhood Centre on Tuesday from 3:30pm to 5:30.
GRANVILLE: This centre provides home work help and recreational activates for young refugees. There are a number of wonderful young adult volunteers who take time out of there Saturdays from 10am to 12:30pm at Granville Youth and Community Recreation Centre.
PARRAMATTA:This centre provides an opportunity for young refugees to use computers and get homework help. Senior high school students are the key tutors for junior students in this centre. The adult volunteers duties are to supervise and assist all students. The service is located at Parramatta Library on Mondays and Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
REDFERN: This centre is a joint program with Redfern Computer Centre, their cooperation allows YCW to provide computer access to the local young people, homework help, recreational activities and other help young people may need. Located at Redfern PCYC on Mondays from 11am to 4pm.
BLACKTOWN: This centre provides an opportunity for young Sudanese to get homework help. Senior high school students are the key tutors for junior students in this centre. The adult volunteers duties are to supervise and assist all students If what you have read interests you The service is located at St Andrews College, John Paul II campus Tuesdays 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
