About Us

The Young Christian Workers Movement is an international youth movement which values the dignity and worth of each young person. It enables its members to challenge social exclusion and take action to bring about change in their home, workplace and social life.

The YCW starts from the reality of the young workers, their living, working conditions, values, hopes and aspirations. It is a movement that is run by young workers for young workers. As a movement we aim to serve educate and represent.

Serve
The YCW in Sydney runs several services, targeted at early school leavers, job seekers and refugees. All our services aim to empower the participants so that they may be able to fully participate in Australian society. All our services are run by volunteers.

Educate
The YCW educates on several different levels. Our services educate - for example, they teach English to refugees, or resume writing skills to job seekers. Using the see-judge-act process we educate our members on leadership skills. As well, we run workshops to educate the wider population on issues that matter to young adults.

Represent
The YCW takes representative action, to let the government and other social leaders know what matters to young workers in Australia. To name a few things we do, we participate in rallies, letter writing campaigns, community education events, we write submissions into government inquiries and we sit on a number of committees nationally and internationally.

What is YCW?

YCW is an international movement run by, for and with young people. We are inclusive of all cultures and religions. We seek to organise, educate and empower young people to be leaders of positive change within their own lives and the community.

YCW believes that both personal and collective action is the starting point for building justice, dignity and harmony into the fabric of society. YCW carries out its work so that young people may be able to: discover the deepest meaning of their lives, live according to their dignity and take up responsibilities to finding solutions to their own situations.

We seek to assist young people to find meaningful employment opportunities. We assist young people to break down the barriers of being unemployed. We hope to educate all young people about their rights at work. We also advocate for better working conditions for young workers.

YCW seeks to promote awareness of the plight of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia. We hope to encourage young people to take action as a way of supporting and being in solidarity with refugees. We also seek to break down cultural and linguistic boundaries and create a sense of community.
